Simulated Game Season 2024

“What a day. First there was the sight of Shuckburgh hall in all its glory amid a snowy landscape. Then out of the car and into the meeting hall to meet the other shooters. Then tea, coffee and the ubiquitous bacon roll, a safety briefing and off to the first of five drives. All five drives imitated driven pheasant, there were enough targets to keep the novice happy and engaged. For the more experienced shot there were plenty of challenging ones to provide that sense of satisfaction, with a left and right pair of high fast targets. After every drive refreshments appeared so that no one went hungry or thirsty.

We were a group of thirteen shooters in all. This event is something you can do by yourself to meet new friends: Everyone takes a turn shooting with a loader, and then loading as your partner shoots. You quickly develop a working relationship. I went with a group of colleagues and this was an ideal opportunity to ‘critique’ (at great length) their shooting! At the end of the day, after thousands of clays being launched and several hundred cartridges lighter, it is back to the Hall for pre-dinner drinks, exaggerated stories of clays ‘brought down’ and a warm by the log fire. To round off the day dinner is served in the dining room, with plenty of wine, and no apparent ‘time to go home’.”
